Industrial Users Wastewater Monitoring Program
Morgantown Utility Board (MUB) issues WVU a permit to discharge wastewater to its sanitary sewage system. In response, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) manages an environmental wastewater monitoring program across the Morgantown campuses. This program provides information on the nature of WVU’s wastewater and alerts the institution to processes and procedures that may need adjustments to reduce the discharge of potentially harmful contaminants into Morgantown’s wastewater system and the environment.

Environmental Health & Safety Stormwater Program
EH&S monitors activities like solid waste handling, garbage storage, and waste grease handling on campus to assure that stormwater discharges from WVU are not contaminating the environment or stormwater systems. Improvements to solid waste handling reduce the potential for accidental environment releases on campus. Also, EH&S coordinates a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) program to prevent the release of oils and petroleum products stored and used on campus. Storage of these materials is evaluated on an ongoing basis as well.

Two of the recent highlights of stormwater sustainability at WVU include the following:

  • The rain garden (at right) was constructed in association with the Parking Lot ST4 project and the Suncrest retention ponds.
  • The Suncrest retention ponds were constructed by WVU in conjunction with a comprehensive plan that was developed by MUB to address the long-time flooding issues on Pompono Run.
