Purchasing

WVU Purchasing, Contracts & Payment Services negotiates sustainable options into contract with vendors. Payment Services requests alternate pricing for a core list of 1,000 items WVU most frequently purchases in large quantities. Where the green, remanufactured, recycled price is equal to or less than other prices and where quality is equivalent to original equipment manufacturer brands, Payment Services will contract for the sustainable item and require contract vendors to challenge buyers when they order non-sustainable items.

WVU’s interior design standards also incorporate sustainability through the purchase of products that are environmentally friendly. The standardized furniture lines Kimball and KI, both use GREENGUARD-certified products that provide a public and scientifically-based, third-party qualification for products and services. The GREENGUARD Certification complies with established indoor air quality standards such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s purchasing requirements and the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program. WVU purchases seven out of ten Green Seal custodial products offered by Johnson Diversey. Shaw and Mannington carpet lines are primarily used because of their recycled products content and cradle-to-cradle life cycles.
