2009 Recap
The fifth annual Blue & Gold Mine Sale held on May 23rd, 2009 was a smashing success!! $15,900 was raised for the United Way, besting last year’s amount by alsmost $2,000!!!! WVU’s WE CAN program and the city of Morgantown collected 52 tons of material and 766 people were waiting to enter when the gates opened at 7:00 a.m. The United Way would like to thank its dedicated group of volunteers for sorting, cleaning, pricing, and selling all of the goods at the sale. The hard work of the volunteers and the excited shoppers make this sale possible. See you next year!
Tentative Blue and Gold Mine Sale Date for 2010:
May 22nd
About the sale:
One of the ways WVU creates impact in the community is by recycling materials from on and off-campus student residents that would otherwise be thrown away. WE CAN, in conjunction with WVU’s Center for Civic Engagement and the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties holds the Blue and Gold Mine Sale each May. On-campus collections are done during the week of finals, and the city of Morgantown continues to collect off-campus for another week after finals.
In 2007, over 30 tons of clothing, shoes, housewares, electronics, gardening equipment, sports equipment, appliances, furniture, rugs, lamps, etc. were collected and sold, raising $9,000 for the United Way. In 2008, the sale raised $14,000!!! This sale is huge!
