WVU Sustainability Committee

The mission of the WVU Sustainability Committee is to facilitate the adoption of a sustainable campus initiative by providing guidance and recommendations to the university toward the development of a sound sustainability policy. The committee built a collaborative network with departments across the campus and the community; created an institutional blueprint and framework for action; created an online sustainability pledge for students, faculty, and staff; developed an institution-wide sustainability policy that is awaiting BOG approval; and developed a policy for new construction and existing buildings and commercial interiors to be LEED certified or the equivalent.

The Sustainability Committee formed in October of 2008 and meets about every six weeks. The committee allocates several initiatives to its three subcommittees: the WE CAN Subcommittee, the Transportation and Parking Advisory Committee, and the Sustainability Liaison and Academic Subcommittee.
